NEXT DEVIL’S MILE - SUNDAY JUNE 23, 2024

This event is a short, straight line one mile swim from Devil’s Hole public slip to Trunk Island. After the swim there will be a BBQ on Trunk Island, and we will coordinate transport for non swimming fans out to the island. Race Day information:

Pre Race check in - 10am at Devil’s Hole Slip (please be on time!!!)

Start - 11am at Devil’s Hole Slip

Post Race BBQ - will have food and drinks all of which are free - if you wish to make donations for the food/drinks that’s very kind and we will pass along BBQ funds to the Bermuda Zoological Society - last year we were able to donate in excess of $2,000 - so get your appetites ready to top that amount this year!

Some people are training for longer swims and wish to get in more distance than 1 mile - to enable them to accomplish that (and not miss out on the BBQ) we can coordinate a lift out to Trunk Island leaving Devil’s Hole Slip at 10am. We will drop those swimmers out there, they can swim back to the start and then do the race. If you want to join this group send Mike Cash an email in advance (mike@bows.bm) so we can plan for numbers.

For family/friends who want to watch the swim and join the BBQ we will arrange transport by Callista (Aquarium pontoon boat) which will collect you from Harrington Sound School Dock. Exact time will be shared closer to the day, but assume that you will need to drop swimmers at Devil’s Hole, then go to Harrington Sound School parking lot to park and await Callista.

HISTORY

The Devil’s Mile is a new event on the calendar as of 2018, intended to offer a moderate distance open water event to swimmers, especially those with more limited swimming endurance

The Route 

The route is a straight shot in Harrington Sound, starting at the Devil’s Hole Slip and finishing at the dock on the South East corner of Trunk Island.

  • Q: Do I need a support boat?
    • A: No. safety craft are monitoring the course.
  • Q: Are there water stops along the swim course?
    • A: No, there will be drinks at the finish.
  • Q: How will I navigate during the swim?
    • A: The course will be marked. In addition you will receive information on the course during the pre-race meeting.
  • Q: Are wetsuits allowed?
    • A: No, the water will be more than 76f during the swim.
  • Q: Are there socials planned?
    • A: In future years we aim to work with the property owners to have a BBQ and party at Trunk Island after the event.
